Examination of four of these samples, collected from separatesites, is reported in this paper.
These red/gray chips show markedsimilarities in all four samples. One sample was collected by aManhattan resident about ten minutes after the collapse of the secondWTC Tower, two the next day, and a fourth about a week later. Theproperties of these chips were analyzed using optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy dispersivespectroscopy (XEDS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Thered material contains grains approximately 100 nm across which arelargely iron oxide, while aluminum is contained in tiny plate-likestructures. Separation of components using methyl ethyl ketonedemonstrated that elemental aluminum is present. The iron oxide andaluminum are intimately mixed in the red material. When ignited in a DSC device the chips exhibit large but narrow exotherms occurring atapproximately 430 °C, far below the normal ignition temperature forconventional thermite. Numerous iron-rich spheres are clearly observedin the residue following the ignition of these peculiar red/gray chips.The red portion of these chips is found to be an unreacted thermiticmaterial and highly energetic.

Weiterführende Infos
Durch den Fund von Nanothermit in den Proben des Staub aus Ground Zero ist der Beweis erbracht, die World Trade Center Gebäude wurden gesprengt, denn so ein Material dürfte gar nicht darin zu finden sein. Kleine rote und graue Splitter welche von diesem Sprengstoff stammen, wurden von Professor Steven E. Jones Doktor der Physik im Staub entdeckt und wissenschaftlich untersucht. So ein high-tech Sprengmittel kann man nicht im nächsten Laden kaufen, sondern stammt nur aus Militärbeständen.
